SOUNDERS SIGN JOHANSSON
Seattle Sounders have completed the signing of Swedish international Adam Johansson on Thursday.
Signing the defender on a long contract is certainly a coup for the club. Adam Johansson has spent the last 7 years of his career with Swedish club Goteborg.
This is his first major move in his career, and Seattle sounders will be hoping for the best from the 28-year-old. He made 129 appearances for the Swedish club and scored two goals in the process. He has also made his international debut for Sweden back in 2009 against USA.
He went on to make many important appearances for Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers. They have qualified for the Euro 2012 and Seattle sounders will also be hoping for a great performance from their defender at the coveted European Championships. The move will be completed once the defender gets his visa and international clearances. The terms of the deal and also the transfer fee agreed between the two clubs have not been revealed.
"Adam has been a mainstay at Goteborg for years and we are very happy to add him to our defense. His leadership and experience are going to be a great compliment to the growth of our team," said the technical director of Seattle sounders, Chris Henderson. Meanwhile, Adam Johansson expressed his delight at moving to a large MLS club.
"I had a great stay in Seattle while meeting with officials from the club, and seeing the stadium and training ground. I got a really good feeling. It will be a new start for me, a new life. It's going to be a good adventure," said Johansson. It is expected that Johnson will be replacing James Riley, who has left the club after the expansion draft. Johnson made his last international appearance in the match against Cyprus only recently.
