KELLER NETS GOALIE AWARD
At 36 years old many are talking of David Beckham as though he is too old to play in the MLS, and talking of retirement. At the same time 41-year-old Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller has been announced as the goalkeeper of the year by the MLS!
Following the end of the campaign, the league announced their best 11 and the 41-year-old goalkeeper was part of it, alongside a number of players from form team LA Galaxy including the likes of David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Todd Dunivant. Omar Gonzalez has also been included in the 2011 MLS all-star team. Thierry Henry is the other major introduction in the all-star team, as he has become one of the most famous Europeans to have managed to succeed in the MLS.
Kasey Keller was playing in his final professional season for Seattle sounders, and he has been extremely delighted to hear that he has been chosen as the goalkeeper for the all-star team. He had a 76 save percentage, which made him one of the best in the league. He also managed to keep 9 clean sheets for Seattle sounders.
After receiving the nomination, Kasey Keller said "I am so proud that I was able to perform at the highest level in what was my final year. It's always nice to receive an award - it's nice that someone has thought of you in that regard. I've never played the game for individual awards but it's nice to be recognized by your peers."
Kasey Keller's 20 years professional career will be coming to an end at the end of this season. He will be going out with a bang after having so many years at the top of the game. He beat Philadelphia Union's Faryd Mondragon, who finished in the second place for the award.
